kennishia boahene

Kennishia Boahene is a graduate of McMaster University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Minor in Peace Studies. In 2017, she completed her Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Resolution from the University of Waterloo with aspirations to pursue a career in the non-profit field. Her passion is rooted in mediation, youth advocacy and social justice matters. As a past ACCPI awards recipient in 2009, Kennishia joined the scholarship committee as a board member, assisting in the application process and organizing the annual awards ceremony. In March 2018, Kennishia was elected to become President of ACCPI. It is her belief that education is most powerful when it is used towards the betterment of individual lives, and stands by ACCPI's efforts to make post-secondary education more accessible to deserving youth.

juliet daniel

Dr. Juliet Daniel is a Professor and Cancer Biologist in the Biology Department at McMaster University, Canada. Dr. Daniel’s cancer biology research led to her discovery and naming of a new gene “Kaiso”, coined from the popular Caribbean music “calypso”. Dr. Daniel partners with The Olive Branch of Hope (TOBOH) cancer support service in Toronto to organize “Think Beyond ‘Love Pink’ Breast Cancer Awareness” workshops for women of African Ancestry in Toronto. Dr. Daniel has been the recipient of several awards including the Ontario Premier’s Research Excellence Award, the Hamilton Black History Month John C. Holland Professional Achievement Award, the African Canadian Achievement Award of Excellence in Science and several other awards. She has also been featured in “Millenium Minds: 100 Black Canadians” and “Who’s Who in Black Canada”. Over the years, Dr. Daniel has volunteered for several non-profit and charitable organizations – The Canadian Multicultural LEAD Organization, National Let’s Talk Science Program, and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Initiative.

jasmine francis

Jasmine is a proud graduate of York University where she graduated with  a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with a minor in honours business administration .

Jasmine is currently employed by Mohawk College as a Student Success Coach for the Department of Liberal Studies. Outside of her career in higher education, she provides makeup services under the business name Jasmine Bridget Beauty.  She volunteers for the Hamilton Youth Steel Orchestra and the John C Holland awards committee. Jasmine also serves as Vice President on the Board of Directors for the African Caribbean Cultural Potpourri Inc.

phillip jeffrey

Phillip was a volunteer on the Board of Directors of the African Caribbean Cultural Potpourri Inc (ACCPI) from 1996 to present and served as its President from 2003 to 2007.

Phillip Jeffrey has had an illustrious career as an educator in the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, the USA and Canada. He retired from the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board in 2017 after receiving awards in recognition of his contributions to education and libraries.

Phillip was recently appointed to serve on the City of Hamilton’s Committee Against Racism.

joelle kabisoso

Joelle Kabisoso is a passionate and proud past recipient of an ACCPI scholarship Award. She is graduated from Western University where she obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Family Studies. Joelle currently works with the provincial government offering various legal service. She is currently pursuing a certificate degree in Family Mediation and has strong interest in education and women empowerment. This led her to start her own non-profit by the name of “Sisters in Sync”.  Joelle hopes to turn this initiative into an organization aimed at supporting women by providing resources for daily living and advocating on their behalf. She also serves as the Sponsorship and Donor Relations Coordinator for ACCPI.

keith williams

An engineer by profession, Keith has been retired for the past seven years after extensive stints at the Antigua Public Utilities Authority, Westinghouse and Siemens spanning in excess of forty years.

 Keith has been treasurer of ACCPI, and the original Caribbean Potpourri for the past twenty five years. As a recipient of a full engineering scholarship, ACCPI’s mission to provide scholarships for youth of African and Caribbean heritage is particularly resonant, and a cause worthy of support and significant commitment. Keith is tremendously optimistic of, and heartened by the Hamilton community’s acceptance and support for this ACCPI initiative .

Cathy Ferriera

Cathy Ferreira is the past president of the Board of Directors and an executive member of the African Caribbean Cultural Potpourri Inc. since 1997.

Cathy holds a Master of Social Work, Analysis of Social Welfare Policy from McMaster University. She works for the Ontario Public Service in support of Victims and Vulnerable Persons in the Criminal Justice System for the past 17 years. She is the co-founder of the Hamilton Youth Steel Orchestra (c.2004), a not-for-profit community-based music program focussing on Youth Mentorship. Over the years Cathy has served various Boards of community organizations including the Children International Learning Centre and Hamilton Urban Core.

Cathy is the recipient of several awards for her commitment to women empowerment and community service including Status of Women Canada, YWCA Women of Distinction; Rev.John C. Holland; City of Hamilton; Women Who Rock.

Yvette Beach

Yvette Beach is a retired School Principal with the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board. Her experience spans thirty-two years in Education, twelve of which she served as Principal at St. Peter and Paul and at Corpus Christi Schools.

Apart from this, Yvette is also the past president of Kids for Kaga. Her community involvement also includes serving on the Board of Directors for Catholic Family Services and Immigrant Workers Centre.

 

Rebecca PetTinella

Rebecca is a proud graduate of Mohawk College - McMaster University where she studied nursing and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduation she continued her education with a certificate in Perinatal Nursing - Neonatal stream. Rebecca is currently employed at McMaster Children’s Hospital where she is a Registered Nurse on the Medicine/Intermediate Care Unit. When Rebecca is not working, she occasionally volunteers with the Hamilton Youth Steel Orchestra, and serves as Community Outreach Coordinator for the African Caribbean Cultural Potpourri Inc.
